Albert Auburn, JD ’47, Leaves Legacy Gift to Fund Scholarship for Students Who Are Passionate About Law

Photo of Albert AuburnAlbert “Al” Auburn always knew that he wanted to be a lawyer. He attended Suffolk University Law School with the help of the GI Bill and enjoyed a 64-year career in private practice, working until three weeks before his death this past June at the age of 99.

In gratitude for all the success that his SULS education provided him—and always wanting to help others—Al arranged a legacy gift through a distribution from his IRA to establish the Kazar and Zartig Abrahamian Scholarship Fund to honor his parents, who both were Armenian genocide survivors.

Al served as a bombardier in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1977 having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He and his wife, Marion Rae Auburn, were married for 53 years and had two daughters, Pamela and Cynthia.

During his career, which included time teaching in Natick, Al gave back to his community by providing estate and criminal legal services pro bono to those in need. Al also served as a selectman in Wellesley for many years and was active in the Kiwanis Club there.

Al’s daughter Cynthia reached out to Suffolk about her father’s legacy gift. At his request, his scholarship will be need-based and help students who are passionate about law—with special consideration given to first-generation and multicultural students. This gift will continue Al Auburn’s legacy at Suffolk for generations to come.
