Ralph Ferragamo ’64 Helps Baseball Program Now and Through His Will

Photo of Ralph Ferragamo Ralph Ferragamo, BA ’64, a successful entrepreneur responsible for starting multiple businesses in the publishing sector, fondly remembers his time as a Rams’ star outfielder. Not only did he help the team take Lowell Tech 24-7 with his second-inning grand slam, but he also made the game-clinching catch against baseball powerhouse Boston College—denying the Eagles another trip to the College World Series. For years after graduation, he coached baseball while working as a teacher.

To ensure the continued success of Suffolk’s baseball team and to benefit future players, Ferragamo generously established The Ralph Ferragamo Baseball Fund last year. This endowed fund gives student-athletes the opportunity to travel while providing financial support for recruitment efforts and general costs associated with the program. Through a bequest made in his will, The Ralph Ferragamo Baseball Fund will continue to support Rams baseball for generations to come.

When discussing the motivation for his gift, Ralph reflected, “Suffolk took a chance on me.” Because of the opportunity he was given at Suffolk, Ralph wanted to “pay it forward” and provide students like him with the chance to play baseball while in college. The Ferragamo family has been able to experience the impact of this gift as they continue to attend events in support of the Rams.

On October 25, 2019, Suffolk inducted Ralph Ferragamo into the Athletics Hall of Fame, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual athlete or team. And to honor his leadership philanthropic support, the Athletics Department has named April 14 Ferragamo Day. With his name displayed on the Ralph Ferragamo ’64 Baseball Office in the Ridgeway Building, the home of Suffolk Athletics, members of the Suffolk community will always be reminded of his generosity and athletic achievements.
